I suspect that at first people held back, fearing that the project would be limited to the i.MX6 CPU, wouldn't get a critical mass, etc. As the funding threshold neared, confidence grew, and more people signed up. It might also just have taken people a week or two to decide to commit a bunch of money to a 15-months away delivery ...
