I used to think that removing guns from the streets was important. Taking this (naive) view it seemed to me that the public owning guns could be seen as either a bug that could be fixed or a fundamental flaw in the system that can't be fixed. But now my thoughts are far more complex. I enjoy living in the UK where I've never held a gun, and outside of the police and army I don't know anyone who's ever held a gun let along own one. My opinion at the moment is that guns could be removed from the streets, but people don't want them gone. There is so much fear of the bad guys who have guns that regular folks will never give them up.
