Mt. Gox was a centralised custodian. Layer 2 systems like Lightning Network are not, because they can't run away with your money. If they try to cheat, you can always withdraw your money.
- the_stc 9y agoBut detecting cheating and withdrawing requires you to have client software online and monitoring. Which individuals can not do and thus will outsource it to their payment handling company which will probably be the same as the LN hub.
- haakon 9y agoIt can be outsourced to trustless third party, who also has no control over your money and cannot cheat.
