Cognitect killed Clojure. Cognitect decided to repurpose Clojure as little more than a tool to sell licenses to their proprietary database, Datomic. This, for obvious reasons, pissed off a lot of people who'd previously supported Hickey and Cognitect, and stopped trusting their motives. And given that Cognitect control the ultimate design and direction of Clojure, the fact that the community does not, cannot trust their motives is proving to be an existential threat. Nobody wants to sink their time in learning a language that looks increasingly, for all the world to see, like a marketing tool for Rich Hickey to get rich off Datomic.
