I spent a taking English classes at a local community college so I could graduate a year early from high school. I consider the decision to graduate early one of the best I've ever made. Staying there a year longer would have been a complete waste of time, and life since then has been so much better. In terms of programming, my best investment has definitely been learning Vim. I sacrificed a little productivity for a week or so, and now I'm way more productive than I was before.
