Looks like something that could profoundly change the japanese society if the situation continue to get worse.
- patio11 16y agoI optimistically prefer to read this as "Small-town Japan is the world's best place to do a startup", and not purely for self-justification. The opportunity cost to doing a software startup may actually be negative for twenty-something Japanese engineers who are not salarymen.
- exit 16y agohow much unemployment could startups in rural japan absorb? would their work conditions and salaries be any better than what salarymen experience?
- patio11 16y agoBingo Card Creator pays me more at age 28 than a salaryman will make at age 35, I work roughly 1/5th the hours, and my raise every year is between 70 and 100% as opposed to 2%. Some Japanese people may do "real" startups, too, but call that the lower bound for reasonable expectations for improvement in living conditions.
- exit 16y agobut do you think startups could reduce a sizable proportion of unemployment? also, would "real" startups pay employees comparable to what Bingo Card Creator brings in for you?
