What we really need is an iphone x emulator web browser mode.
Basically a rounded chunk taken out of the left side of my monitor so i can preview what my work will look like.
An optional virtual thumb moving about the screen would enhance the simulation provided we can adjust the skin tone/gender.
- untog 9y ago> What we really need is an iphone x emulator web browser mode. The iOS simulator is basically this. It's included with XCode.
- pweissbrod 9y agosomeone told me visual studio gives you the virtual thumb option. unfortunately it is hard-coded to a unisex/caucasian thumb in the latest version.
- egypturnash 9y agoThis is something web developers probably never think about - but a lady who keeps her nails moderately long is going to obscure an extra square half inch or so of screen when she taps the phone! Thinking about this also reminds me of the time I found a game controller I physically could not use, because the face buttons were nestled into a little recess. I could only press them about 10% of the way down before my thumbnail clicked against the housing.
- Rumudiez 9y agoIf you play the cello, violin, or even piano you'll find everyone and their mother telling you the same thing: cut your nails! Being able to arch your fingers naturally is an ergonomic advantage and will probably help with your typing, too.
- taternuts 9y agoI imagine for most women with long nails, it's an active tradeoff for aesthetics
- lbarrett 9y agoIf you play the classical guitar, you may receive different advice. Long nails can have practical uses.
- egypturnash 9y agoI'm pretty happy with typing with the ends of my nails rather than my fingertips, tbh. It feels super weird when I break one and have to use my fingertip for some keys.
- cbhl 9y agoSure, but what about the people authoring web content on Windows? I'm not talking about run-of-the-mill SWEs.
- AlphaSite 9y agoSomeone really should test the content on device there are ways things you miss otherwise.
- williamscales 9y agoSo you are suggesting that all hobbyist web content producers should buy an iPhone X? That seems counter to the point of having web standards and would be prohibitvely expensive for many.
- earenndil 9y agoJust use the css to make the areas around the notch black and assuming the entire phone is rectangular in that case.
- williamscales 9y agoI mean, I think this is what the default iPhone X website display algorithm does, more or less, as I understand it. It colors the "notch margin" with whatever is directly next to it. Frankly, a screen that isn't rectangluar is awfully weird to me. I wonder if we'll a) all get over it or b) make the sensors smaller to get the rectangular screen back or c) move on to virtualized screens projected from small wearables and forget this whole thing even happened.
