If a person has 3-5 kids, you might think his/her reproduction doesn't scale. But what if their kids went on to have 3-5 kids, and so on and so forth. Population grows healthily. IMO, that's scaling with high quality. The other alternative is: one person learns to reproduce and has 1 million kids. That person dies, population dies. That doesn't scale.
