Feels like the old claim that Macs didn't catch viruses like Windows does. Turned out that no one bothered to make viruses for something no one uses. In other words the "security nightmare" is as much due to its popularity and ubiquity as it is to do with any particular detail of the language itself.
Maybe the most secure language is the one so esoteric, and complex, and incomprehensible that no one uses it to make anything and therefore is never exploited.
- nine_k 9y agoThat language will be sure to link against some C libraries, at least, libc. That might be enough to crack deeper into the system. The problem with C is that it's widely used for critical system-level software, and practically all other tools were (and are) inadequate for the task.
- baldfat 9y agoThat lie? They on the other hand recommended that people install anti-virus programs till that got pointed out. https://www.cnet.com/news/apple-suggests-mac-users-install-antivirus-software/ https://www.cnet.com/news/apple-suggests-mac-users-install-a... I hate that it is okay to lie. Of course any OS can have a virus and malicious code. It runs code.
