Is HN competing with 4chan on this? I'm gonna be pretty disappointed if we lose.
- sidcypher 9y agoNah, 4channers are more numerous and/or have more time on their hands. Edit: besides, we are to collab, not compete.
- eradicatethots 9y agoAlso the culture/format/rules there are way better suited for this
- reificator 9y agoNo, simply because HN doesn't have the culture of "Here's a problem, let's collaborate on it". We're much more likely to discuss the problem itself and discuss the pros and cons of different approaches. If you ask for help with a specific problem you'll probably get it, but I don't think there's the same viewpoint that if a puzzle is posted we need to solve it as a collective as quickly as possible.
- nicky0 9y agoIf you post on HN about a problem, you'll likely get 1 useful answer and 6 answers pointing out that your problem is symptomatic of a wrongheaded approach and you should be doing something else instead :)
- songshu 9y agoI love the replies to this. Not to shoot any one of them down, but it makes me wonder what would it take for us to admit 4chan are smarter?
- chris_wot 9y agoIt’s like those on HN never go to 4chan and vice versa...
