Is it weird when people talk about you as if you aren't there? :) A question for you: How do you stay motivated to work on OSS projects over a long term?

> Is it weird when people talk about you as if you aren't there? :) Very much weird. Mostly people don't realize I am the one they are talking about. It is the same on Reddit... Often I get downvoted on Reddit about VLC, like I don't know what I'm talking about :) > A question for you: How do you stay motivated to work on OSS projects over a long term? You find new ideas and new challenges.

  > Often I get downvoted on Reddit about VLC, like I don't know what I'm talking about :) I've noticed this on just about every subject discussed on reddit, though it's particularly bad in tech-related subs. Objectively false information ends up being upvoted to the top, while accurate information coming from people who know what they're talking about ends up being buried in downvotes. It's pretty ridiculous. /r/Technology would be more accurately named /r/DunningKrugerGoneWild

Happens here, too. I work on big lawsuits for a living and I get down-voted on the regular when I comment on legal threads.

  > Often I get downvoted on Reddit about VLC, like I don't know what I'm talking about :) Hilarious, but somewhat typical for Reddit (and other places with voting systems).

Not one with downvotes, for better or worse.

(or something) ? I'd expect on the more technical subreddits, that should suffice? (maybe not on the biggest/general ones though, too many people makes for some may not even read the whole comment before voting)
