Ah didn't get that impression from my reading of snow crash but yeah looks like Hiro is intended to be half black and half Asian.
I do recall the first chapter of ringworld descrivig Louis Wu as having an East Asian appearance.

The rest of him looks more like his father, who was African by way of Texas by way of the Army—back in the days before it got split up into a number of competing organizations such as General Jim's Defense System and Admiral Bob's National Security.
- moomin 9y agoFor pretty much any imaginable ethnicity, there's a great actor out there. Just look at Ricky Whittle. (Just don't look at him on Hollyoaks.)
