More seriously, the link above shows how early on Jeff Atwood got design input from the people who use the site. Jeff's comment on Dan's critique also show how they continue to work with the users on design, and they've hired a designer, Jin, who also commented. The post is like a small version of the American Airlines design critique post from a while ago, complete with a polite explanation of why the design is the way it is.
