Presumably you saved up at least 50K from that job, which means you have bought the security of knowing you won't starve, which is a great happiness if you realize how bad life can get.
if you didn't save money, well.............
- ahoyhere 16y agoI planned to bank $40k but I quit at $15k because I was just so sick of it, it was eating my life. And look! I didn't starve! I trust more in my capabilities than in my liquid assets. That's the whole thrust of my above argument.
- keefe 16y agosure but if those capabilities don't turn into liquid assets, they're not good for much (in terms of survival). I won't be really happy with my bankroll until it breaks 6 figures in super conservative investments, that way I know if things go to shit, I'm good for a few years like I mean if you were making 150K you were probably banking like ~10K a month? if your cost of living was a reasonable like 3K a month, then you still were banking 7K a month, imho 4-6 more months of that would have been a solid choice, the utility of 50K is WAY different than the utility of 15K
- starkfist 16y agoIf you make $150K, after taxes you have about $6800 per month.
- keefe 16y agoshould be well over 7500 but tax rate is a bitch
- starkfist 16y agoOnly if you live somewhere with no state tax.
- keefe 16y agohttp://www.paycheckcity.com/netpaycalc/netpaycalculator.asp http://www.paycheckcity.com/netpaycalc/netpaycalculator.asp these guys have usually underestimated my check (given that my taxes have been weird) and you're close to 7500 even in cali which has massive taxes
- starkfist 16y agoI don't know how you are getting that. I made $150K in California and my paycheck was about 3400 every 2 weeks, which is what that site says, too.
- keefe 16y agowith 1 federal allowance which is standard afaik I can't make it spit out 6800 monthly with 150K annual Your Pay Check Results Monthly Gross Pay $12,500.00 Federal Withholding $2,842.77 Social Security $775.00 Medicare $181.25 California $1,073.22 CA SDI $137.50 Net Pay $7,490.26
- starkfist 16y agoIf you put in 150K annually, paid bi-weekly instead of 12,500 monthly, it comes out closer to $6800. I tried yours and got $7,490. Your Pay Check Results Bi-weekly Gross Pay $5,769.23 Federal Withholding $1,351.36 Social Security $357.69 Medicare $83.65 California $491.19 CA SDI $63.46 Net Pay $3,421.88
- keefe 16y ago7490 * 12 = 89,880 3421 * 26 = 88,946 the difference doesn't seem as much as it initially appears
- ahoyhere 16y agoWhy are you supposing to tell me what would have been better for me? You have no idea how it turned out, except that I obviously have zero regrets about my choice - I think that's pretty clear from the way I write about it. Just because you are afraid doesn't mean I am/was.
