Amazon prefaces its recruiting emails to women engineers with “Diversity HIRE”
- terpsk 9y agoLOL this is incredible
- tooltalk 9y agouggh.. "This site can’t be reached"
- redinkydonk 9y agohttps://imgur.com/a/MzTV9 https://imgur.com/a/MzTV9 imgur link isn't working?
- yvesmh 9y agoHere's a non album link: https://i.imgur.com/ZeReXLm.png https://i.imgur.com/ZeReXLm.png
- markwaldron 9y agoI wish they wouldn't have blocked out the email information. There's very little to verify this is legit.
- sandlerben 9y agoThis is my very good friend and I promise this is legit
- bllguo 9y agoThis is your first comment in 1.75 yrs and we have no reason to trust you; your testimonial is unconvincing, unfortunately.
- sandlerben 9y agoFair, I added some more identifying information to my profile so you know that I'm a real person.
- mikestew 9y agoI have a very good friend in Amazon recruiting that says this has to be Photoshopped because Amazon doesn’t do that. No, that’s not true. But I’ve got a ton of karma on HN, I post frequently, and there’s contact info in my profile. Who are people going to believe if I didn’t put a disclaimer here? Not that I don’t believe you, but I’m not inclined to believe some random person on the internet who has posted to this forum for the first time. IOW, many of us are waiting for something better than, “it’s true, really”.

- sounds 9y agoLet's not require a person to "out" themselves before we consider their information legit. Rather, let's reach out to our colleagues at Amazon and see if we can reach a recruiter. It shouldn't be hard to do.
- markwaldron 9y agoI'm not asking that the person out themselves. I meant more information about the sender - I could quickly code up an email template that looks similar to Amazons.
- floatingatoll 9y agoOP, can you offer more thoughts on why this is newsworthy? I intend no criticism, I just want to understand what this means to you and why you linked it. (If you’d rather not, I can safely assume a partial understanding from it, so no worries.)
- xor1 9y agoSeems more relevant than this https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=15356760 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=15356760
- floatingatoll 9y agoIt does? Why? Neither OP nor your reply contain any reasoning to help the rest of us understand :(
- sandlerben 9y agoI think it's honestly offensive to tell a candidate "we are interested in you not (only) because of your engineering skills but also because you are diverse." It's good that Amazon is trying to become more diverse, but an email like this makes a candidate feel like they are being recruited for the wrong reason.
- floatingatoll 9y agoI agree. Thank you for taking the time to write this. I would likely have agreed with OP too, if I could be sure what they thought :(
- JSeymourATL 9y agoDefinitions are important, it's probably not the Diversity Hire you're thinking of > http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=diversity%20hire http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=diversity%20h... In Corporate Speak this means someone else qualified besides white males. Every major tech employer is facing this issue > https://www.forbes.com/sites/clareoconnor/2017/08/02/facebooks-diversity-report-shows-gains-for-women-but-workforce-remains-very-white/#655f78414375 https://www.forbes.com/sites/clareoconnor/2017/08/02/faceboo...
- stefantalpalaru 9y agoThey call these "Affinity Groups" but it all looks like segregation to me: https://www.amazon.jobs/en/landing_pages/diversity https://www.amazon.jobs/en/landing_pages/diversity They can easily weather the storm with the "diversity of thought" shtick.
- ender89 9y agoIt's better than not hiring women I guess....
