- skummetmaelk 9y agoKind of scary to think that what people messaged each other as younglings more than 10 years ago can come back to haunt them.
- srtjstjsj 9y agoZuckerberg now has copies of what hundreds of millions of younglings messages each other...
- Simon_says 9y agoI think that asshole is going to run for president.
- mc32 9y agoIt seems likely, but I don't think people will ultimately vote for a robot-like candidate even within the primaries, so I think we're safe there.
- kbart 9y agoNobody believed Trump will become president either, never underestimate idiots' abilities.
- mc32 9y agoTrump is a populist, but this guy is a technocrat wannabe who looks to China for inspiration. It's as though he'd like to architect our society to his liking, rather than let people make their own society. He's a control freak. Not the kind of person I'd want running the country. An atheist who now says he's found religion? No, that's a put-on. Not that I'd mind an atheist myself, but that's just self serving.
- skocznymroczny 9y agoHow would that work. Why would people vote for him? "Oh, I better vote for him or I'll get banned from facebook"?
- aaron-lebo 9y agoHe's latched onto UBI, as have a lot of the technoraiti. He probably genuinely believes it is necessary (and it maybe), but that's a really easy bone to throw out to voters: "vote for me, I'm gonna give everyone money". Of course there's no way any unified vision of UBI is going to go through the political grinder, so the end result is anyone's guess. He'll probably lean on that and social issues and the fact that he's not as obviously ignorant as Trump. It might be enough to slip through political parties that are running people like Ted Cruz and Clinton as finalists.
- fredsir 9y agoHalf of America voted for Trump. They'll believe anything.
- puranjay 9y agoI don't know how he will overcome his image problem. I've seen some memes floating around that mock him as a "robot" ('greetings, fellow humans!'). Those are pretty funny and hit at one of his biggest problems as a political candidate: he appears robotic
- dang 9y agoThat counts as a personal attack and you can't do that on HN, regardless of who the person is. Please post civil, substantive comments or no comments at all. It's particularly lame to reduce a person to a single scandalous detail from ages ago, let alone a single dumb thing they said as an adolescent. How many of us would enjoy being judged by that standard? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9722096 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9722096
- bobsil1 9y agoGenuinely want to contribute to discussion. Asking respectfully: why is this rule against "personal" and not "ad hominem"? IMO quoting this person's own words contributes to discussion: there's a direct line from kid's willingness to log into customers' other accounts with their passwords, to middle-age person's co running spam-heavy viral loops and shady background audio + stonewalling Congress. Some aspects of character are stable and persistent, and these are relevant to hacker ethics.
