"Privacy"

- danjoc 9y agoPrism. It seems everyone has really short memories. "Bu-but they changed. They keep data private now!" Fappening occurred because Apple left the law enforcement backdoor open, and haxorz exploited the hole with elcomsoft password breaker. Now I'm supposed to believe they have privacy, because they have a marketing campaign about it. Nice try. How exactly is Apple going to protect private information when they are shipping zero-days in Keychain? Privacy can only happen after security, and Apple clearly doesn't have security.
- Veratyr 9y agoPrism is an American thing, not Chinese. Not really relevant here. "Later leaks revealed that the NSA had created spyware targeted at the iPhone, which would have given intelligence services access to SMS messages, on-board data, live microphone feeds, and positioning information. It remains unclear how successful that program was, and Apple again denied involvement." It seems likely the problem is resolved by now. > Fappening occurred because Apple left the law enforcement backdoor open No it didn't. https://techcrunch.com/2016/03/15/prosecutors-find-that-fappening-celebrity-nudes-leak-was-not-apples-fault/ https://techcrunch.com/2016/03/15/prosecutors-find-that-fapp... "From the court documents, it became clear that the victims of Collins’ attack fell prey to a phishing scam. Collins allegedly sent e-mails to the victims that appeared to come from Google or Apple, warning the victims that their accounts might be compromised, and asking for their login details. The victims would enter their password information. Having gained access to the e-mail address, Collins was able to download e-mails, and get further access to other files, such as iCloud accounts."
- nextlevelwizard 9y agoAre you just typing random words or do you have a point? How do any of these things relate? Or are you suggesting that Apple should withdraw from profitable China market, since Chinese government dictates certain monitoring "features" on products sold there? How would that help with anything? All of their user base would just move to Android, which is even less private.
- hesarenu 9y agoIf Apple was serious about privacy then they should have existed China. After all Cook says he does not consider ROI Mr. Cook replied --with an uncharacteristic display of emotion--that a return on investment (ROI) was not the primary consideration on such issues. "When we work on making our devices accessible by the blind," he said, "I don't consider the bloody ROI." It was the same thing for environmental issues, worker safety, and other areas that don’t have an immediate profit. The company does "a lot of things for reasons besides profit motive. We want to leave the world better than we found it."
- nextlevelwizard 9y agoAgain what would it change? Chinese people are even more dependent/addicted on smart phones than Westeners. They would just switch to Androids and be even worse off in my opinion.
