It has taken a long time and a lot of media exposure to raise awareness of these two concepts to ordinary people. My parents now know what both identity theft and credit card fraud are - and they understand the basics of how to deal with each. To start over again with any of these terms because of a nuance of definition and semantics would be extremely counterproductive.
