- deepnotderp 9y agoI think his point is that reading is faster, and the savings from the quadratic cost of the register file might still be useful, a la the DEC Alpha.
- phkahler 9y agoBut each copy would only have 2 read ports instead of 6, and those 2 would feed directly into a single execution unit. The routing within each register file would be simplified. It's a local vs global routing tradeoff. I don't know if it would be better, but my suspicion is that it might.
