DHS agents cherry-picking people's social media posts to deny them entry does not seem overblown to me. I think the only effective solution to this is for the EU to impose similarly annoying travel restrictions on American citizens and for companies to stop going to conferences etc. in the U.S.since they'll notice once big business complains.
