You have to bare in mind that it's not really a bug in the original game. This "bug" only effects people modding the game outside of the original plan, and would never have caused a problem otherwise. I'd agree that it's sloppy coding, but I can also see it from the original developers point-of-view. Why check something you know isn't going to change?
