I believe this is also a ploy to keep people pinging wifi routers. Can't say for sure, but that was my gut reaction when I discovered this during beta testing.

- icebraining 9y agoWhat would be the point? If it's for tracking, you can do that without actually connecting to the networks, just by monitoring passively, like Android does.

- chrisallick 9y agoYes. You must have the modem on. Before it would fully disable WiFi modem. Now it simply looks to be off. Perception is that it’s not connecting but keeps modem on to keep pinging routers passively. But again, that’s why I would do it if I were Apple. Not sure why they are doing it for sure.
