Focus on getting good at the web platform standards. I personally jump at any opportunity to learn new web platform APIs, graphics techniques, design patterns, data structures, and different business domains, and stay away from technologies that are fad-driven. Get good at a few basic tools and focus on application development. It's not about the code its what we make with the code.
