I've touch typed for over 50 years, but I've never gotten really fast like some other software developers. However, this doesn't feel limiting, the thinking part is the limiting factor. On the other hand, being really fluent in an editor (once upon a time in Vi, now Emacs) keeps me in a flow state. I think of code and it appears on the screen without interruption of the deep thoughts.
