You mean, installing Linux on the Mac? Most developers I know who use Mac like it because they don't have to install a Unix-friendly OS to use Unix/Linux tools, yet still get a solid and working OS to use on top of the kernel.

- hellofunk 9y agoWell that makes; I wouldn't think it makes sense to buy a Mac only to install/use some other OS. I've worked in several environments where the development team was equally mixed between Linux machines and Macs, and they all shared the same tools, setups, scripts, etc without issue. Which I think is why developers like Macs so much.
- komali2 9y agoGiven that this was the context of my post, I wish people weren't downvoting you for this. Seems obvious to me.
- walshemj 9y agoBut its not exactly the same is the systems that you will deploy to - ideally you'd develop on identical hardware. At BT we brought or dev test and live from the same production run so they where identical down to the particular rev of the MB our sysadmin guy also would have liked to make sure that any disks we brought where all from the same batch plus spares :-)
