It's also worth saying that different people have different relationships to money. I know that seems obvious, but it's not. Different people conceptualize money in different ways, and most of us have very profound emotional connections to it and what it represents for us. So, I agree with the above poster: try to find out why your spouse is unsupportive, and be prepared to really listen to what s/he is telling you, on their own terms. Treat the analysis as you would a business problem: give it the full "5 Whys". For my part: I cashed out of my first start-up, and am now on my second. There's no doubt in my mind that my wife would be happier if I gave it up, and just got a salaried job somewhere stable. And there's no doubt in my wife's mind that I'd do exactly that, if my ability to provide adequate security for the family were at stake. That's a balance that seems to keep everyone happy, in our case.
