Being able to answer that question may not be easy (as maybe everything goes well UNTIL some critical issue arises - and at that point it could be too late). That being said, I have some colleagues that are good friends outside of work, but they are extremely professional and productive in the office. So I think it ultimately depends on the personalities of the people involved.
