It enables people that normally would not program to do things that they otherwise could not be done with traditional software with a GUI, that being web based, apps or desktop applications. It is a stepping stone into computing that otherwise would have been inaccessible for many. Unlike BASIC, the design of the language is good enough that it can be used in professional applications, and not only being a stepping stone.
