- odammit 9y agoAlso, AND THIS MAY BE CONTROVERSIAL, but I don't need to take a selfie. Its cool, I'm fine. No one needs to see what I look like with my seat belt on. I get that there is the FaceID, etc in there, but if they could reduce the size and focus on things that are necessary instead of narcissistic that'd be the bees knees.
- wlesieutre 9y agoThings that are in that cutout: - IR camera - IR illuminator - Proximity sensor - Ambient light sensor - Speaker - Microphone - Front camera - IR dot projector Taking the selfie camera out doesn't let you make it significantly smaller, and FaceID probably uses that anyway (in addition to the IR camera). https://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Screen-Shot-2017-09-12-at-2.25.40-PM.png https://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Scree...
- wahnfrieden 9y agoYeah FaceTime to talk to your family is totally narcissistic.
- odammit 9y agoOh yeah, forgot about FaceTime. I've only used it like 3 times since it came out, but valid.
- ImSkeptical 9y agoYou may also want to recall that you are not the sole user of iPhones. Selfies are a valid use case even if you personally aren't a fan.
- odammit 9y agoWHAT?
- qq66 9y agoI've never used a tampon. Why do they sell them?
- odammit 9y agoI'd venture say a tampon is not a narcissistic product.

- icantdrive55 9y agoMy hope is with the higher resolution camera on the back, the pretty/handsome folks might night be as handsome as they perceive, and post less selfies. But I'm always wrong with societal trends/faux pas. I really thought by now more than a couple of selfies on a social media site would be uncool.(Yes--I'm embarrassed to even write "cool".) I thought looking into, or answering a smartphone while in a conversation would be social death, but I see that Phone Stare daily. I couldn't imagine being around anyone who is glued to any device. When I see it, my id/amygdala wants to physically take the device and throw it against any wall, or floor. I honestly don't know how younger people tolerate the behavior. I'm definitely getting older. I honestly don't want to turn into my father, but for some reason the Phone Stare bothers me. On a psychological level, maybe I'm envious of their seemingly interesting lives? I haven't figured out why the Phone Stare bothers me. I'm close to being homeless. I'm lonely, and tired. Why does an innocent behavior bother me? And yes--I'm a bit odd. I really did try to fit in at one point in life.
