That's one of the arguments of the paper - there's some good evidence that a lot (of course not all) of those accounts simply stopped posting.

  Because you can just create a new account when your old one gets banned from too many places. Or dozens of new accounts. It's utterly trivial.

    The accounts didn't get banned, though - the subreddits did.
