I strive for FP, but since most external libraries are OOP, I've made my peace with it.
That's probably not the right question though. If we're just focusing on implementation, using the right data structures for the problem would have to be job #1.
Screw that up, and everything else (APIs, UIs, enhancements, training, you name it) is going to be an uphill climb.
