Okay, so what? What do we gain from letting Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall sell pot? The aim here is to provide regulated access, with prices that are low enough to eliminate the black market, but high enough to encourage people to think twice about it. The LCBO has been playing this role pretty well and the profits go towards quality jobs and government investments for the public good. I struggle to see the societal benefit from gifting the profits to established corportations, providing more product than is necessary (or at a lower price), and letting private businesses make the right choice between effective regulation and more sales.
