- cm2187 9y agoAm I the only one who interprets the share api as an attempt from google to blind Facebook, LinkedIn & co in the users tracking race? Not that I am complaining...
- payne92 9y agoI'm not sure it's "blinding" them (after all, the links are shared TO those platforms), but standardizing the sharing mechanism would give Google the future option to track shares (if they aren't already doing it). Knowing what's being shared where, in near realtime, is HUGELY valuable information.
- pornel 9y agoThis is one of the most requested features for webapps (especially PWA) needed for parity with native apps. It's great for both users and authors. As a user you get 1-tap sharing with the sites/apps you actually use, rather than a few popular ones. Sites won't ask you to authorize posting for them. From author perspective you get proper sharing button without embedding bloated scripts from several vendors, implementing custom sharing flows and/or redirecting users away from your app.
- dbbk 9y agoThat's certainly a side effect, although in Facebook's case they do still have other vectors to track user activity such as ad campaign pixels and the Audience Network.
- xfalcox 9y agoI believe this feature is much more than that, like if I find a cool article in a page, I can click the native share and Android will put all my group chat rooms first, like slack and telegram groups.
- tinus_hn 9y agoYes, this replaces their JavaScript while Google remains due to the ads.

- chenzhekl 9y agoFeels like that Chrome is becoming a full-featured operating system. Not sure if it's good or not.
- digi_owl 9y agoIt already it, in the form of ChromeOS. This just seem to bring more of it to other OSs.
- tinus_hn 9y agoWhy does this link have the tracking parameters attached?
- borplk 9y agoProbably the poster copy pasted the link from their RSS feed reader.
