This is a red herring and one that sets off alarms in NIMBY heads, but most American cities are a long way from needing more high rises. What they need are vast tracts of 5 and 6 story apartment buildings. Like Paris. Or Brooklyn. San Francisco is only 44 sq/mi and like half of it is dominated by detached single-family dwellings. That's absurd. San Francisco doesn't need to become Manhattan. It could jump light years ahead if it tried to be more like Queens.
