We use Postgres over MariaDB/MySQL because of working CHECK constraints, Common Table Expressions, extension support, JSON support, custom types and its great documentation.
- paulryanrogers 9y agoWhich JSON features were lacking in Maria/MySQL?
- postgresyes 9y agoBinary JSON (JSONB/BSON)
- philliphaydon 9y agoAll of them? PostgreSQL has kinda left everyone else in the dust in regards to JSON support.

- philliphaydon 9y agoI'm aware there is Json support in MySQL. But my point is that it's primitive when you compare feature sets of MySQL and PostgreSQL for json.
- imhoguy 9y agoPL/v8
- valw 9y agoConverting JSON collections to/from relations

- anhtran 9y agoI like the array field as well
- imhoguy 9y agoI would add transactional DDL - rollback of schema changes helps a lot if something breaks in the middle of migration.
- Buttons840 9y agoAh yes. Common table expressions, my most loved feature from the 1999 SQL specification. Has MariaDB added support for them yet?
- parenthephobia 9y agoYes. Non-recursive CTEs in July 2016, and recursive CTEs in September 2016. https://mariadb.com/kb/en/the-mariadb-library/mariadb-1021-release-notes/ https://mariadb.com/kb/en/the-mariadb-library/mariadb-1021-r... https://mariadb.com/kb/en/the-mariadb-library/mariadb-1022-release-notes/ https://mariadb.com/kb/en/the-mariadb-library/mariadb-1022-r...
- cygned 9y agoWhat about MySQL? Has that improvement been implemented there, too?
