- bensummers 9y agoOracle Java is based on OpenJDK. It's not a separate implementation.
- oaiey 9y agoMicrosoft has not killed Mono. Mono runs today on more devices than ever (do not think Linux, think Unity3D and Xamarin Apps) and has a unique factoring compared to .NET Core. It is currently very valuable to MS. Yes, Mono's class library implementation and Compiler are dead. But who cares. The better implementation won there. But the factoring, the runtime and e.g. the linker are all major assets MS will not easily throw away. Mono is no longer the dominant Open Source .NET version but more an alternative runtime for special use cases. And for server use cases, .NET Core is by many factors better than Mono (stability, performance, ...).
