Because I moved here as a new grad, I know a bunch of others who moved here as new grads to work at Microsoft and Amazon, and almost none of them have ended up entirely shunned by the city. (Exactly one guy I know describes it the way you do, in fact. And I don't hang out with him because he's really prickly and difficult not to offend.)
