Googles growing influence in the world is darn right scary. They are a private company so they can do what ever they want (i.e. they could delist & censor anything the author writes) and claim free speech. If they wanted to they could wipe someone's online identity off the face of the web.
- tryingagainbro 9y agoJust a private army is missing to complete them. Essos maybe? IMO, no company should be this powerful. Let's not forget that Google also bought off quite a few shameless professors during the FTC investigation. http://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2017/07/13/google-favorable-research http://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2017/07/13/google-favorable-r...
- stillhere 9y agoI don't think the founders could have envisioned this when they wrote the Constitution. What happens when corporations have more power than the government? I would imagine that back in the 1700s the government was the most powerful potential free-speech limiting enemy. However, we can't really tell every private company to allow all free speech because it leads to all sorts of problems. What are we supposed to do? This are fraught with many legal, technical and moral concerns and I hope we can all come together with an acceptable solution.
