My father is a beekeeper. Once we were transporting honeybees. Queen honeybees are often delivered with mail for breeding and other purposed. Well they got stuck in the customs for few days without any reasonable explanation at first. Then got an invoice for unpaid alcohol tax ... turned out that someone had written "Caution! Live Beer" instead of "Live Bees" at some point, almost killing the queens.
- saagarjha 9y agoYou’re lucky you didn’t have to pay the dead beer tax on that one.
- throwaway613834 9y agoDid the bees get not X-ray'd or anything? I'm surprised you said "almost killing".
- afandian 9y agoQueens are shipped with a certain amount of food, but a delay in shipping means it could run out.
- throwaway613834 9y agoI meant just dying because of getting tumbled and X-ray'd, not due to lack of food, but good to know, thanks.
- danek 9y agoI am trying to imagaine what the customs agent thinks "live beer" is, since apparently it is something you can import as long as you pay the tax.
- AlgorithmicTime 9y agoBeer with live yeast still suspended in it, rather than filtered out.
- danek 9y agoFair enough (I don't know much about beer)
- nailer 9y ago'Real ale' has live yeast, since it hasn't been pasteurized. It doesn't last on the shelf as long, but it's alive. You can also pirate it if you like the taste.
- slazaro 9y agoDamn these new drinks with their DRM, that you need to buy each time you want to consume them...
- AlgorithmicTime 9y agoYou can harvest the yeast from live beer and grow the yeast for use in your own beers.
- slaymaker1907 9y agoWe should start the free beer foundation!
- nailer 9y agoThe Free Beer Foundation is about 'Free as in freedom', not free as in 'free b...' wait...damnit.
- userbinator 9y agoAt least that didn't get interpreted as "Live Bear".
- skocznymroczny 9y agoto ship that, you have to call an Ubear...
- jaboutboul 9y agoHN has turned into reddit!
- riskable 9y agoNo way man. After the Goldilocks scandal I can't bear that company anymore.
- pavel_lishin 9y agoNot URS?
