Ask HN: What is your hiring process for developers?

We're a small team of 5 and want to grow our dev team by 2 (ideally local, but we're open to remote). In the past, some of our hires weren't the best fit and we had to part ways, wasting everyone's time. I see this as a problem with our process. What is your process? How do you ensure you're letting in the RIGHT people?
