Do you only mean professional athletics? My only issue is that athletics start at a young age for most. For some sports, people routinely go pro in their teenage years (tennis, baseball, etc.). We would have parents PEDing up their kids just to get the college scholarships or drafted out of high school. Feels like that would do more harm than good.
