Ad blocking(edit: or obfuscation like this, obviously) technology that can be installed directly on the router, to protect everybody on my network.. Now that would be a thing! Does a usable option of that kind of tool exist?
- jerluc 9y agoThere are definitely several ad-blocking VPNs out there. And then there's PiHole [1] if you have a spare raspberry pi laying around on your network. [1]: https://pi-hole.net/ https://pi-hole.net/
- fnl 9y agoNow this solution looks really cool, as it doesn't even need more than changing the DNS on the router. Thanks!
- falcolas 9y agoWell, there are hosts files which blackhole requests to known ad domains, so it wouldn't be too much work to make that work as a local DNS router. http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/ http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/
- fnl 9y agoThanks, that looks like an interesting blacklist!
- johnwaynedoe 9y agoWith OpenWRT/LEDE you can do that. However, it does not seem to work as well as a browser implementation. https://lede-project.org/docs/howto/ad-blocking https://lede-project.org/docs/howto/ad-blocking
- fnl 9y agoThanks! Yeah, I guess HTTPS everywhere is the "enemy" in this case... But at least it gives us some basic protection.
