PoW needs to die. PoS can be superior to PoW in every way except the problem of initial wealth distribution. PoW solves this problem elegantly. PoS currently has no meaningful alternative to this distribution method. What Ethereum is doing with using PoW to bootstrap wealth and then transition to PoS looks like a winning combination.
