I like your point about making the car predictable for other drivers. I hadn't considered that but intuitively it makes total sense to me. Maybe the reality is that all of our cars are overpowered for 99% of usage. But if there was an attribute that could be put to use on the road, acceleration makes sense because you legally can't go above 90mph in most places.
