Controversial = Actively and intentionally racist, most expensive (i.e., millions upon millions in settlement payouts), created unconstitutional torture camps, failed to investigate sex crimes (including a 13 year old child), illegally and aggressively closed cases on crimes against hispanics, killed many inmates (and at times hid their deaths from their families), tried to indict/arrest/harass a multiple judges, arrested and tried to tried to hide journalists, and STAGED AN ASSISINATION PLOT that they pinned on an 18 year old kid to create buzz for a re-election campaign stunt.
I'm sorry but controversial is the wrong word. He is evil. Arpaio is the type of criminal people describe when they try and justify 'tough on crime' and yet he was for years law enforcement. He deserves nothing more than to be dumped into the hellscape of a concentration camp that he created and left to fucking rot.
- quuquuquu 9y agoOne would think that we live in a country that upholds the rule of law, the Hobbesian social contract, and the dignity of basic human rights. Many things go right in the USA, but our prisons and police forces commit crimes worse than those observed in Yugoslavia, Syria, and Congo. Many Americans are content to see "criminals" locked away with the key thrown away. What they don't know is that in the USA, you are one step away from being jailed for literally ANY reason, guilty or not.
