HD598, no amp. Just recently upgraded from my decade old pair of 595s, and the additional bass in the 598s is remarkable. Totally changes the sound stage, and not necessarily for better or worse. Both models have a special place in my heart now. Also, bravo on the "daily-driver" pun.
