His mention of Scrivener in the intro was so brief that I have difficulty believing he even read the interactive tutorial, much less wrote one or more books using it. (I've written and published about a dozen novels using Scrivener, via imprints of Penguin, Macmillan, and Hachette, and I'm a beta-tester for the forthcoming Scrivener 3.) While Scrivener doesn't really emphasize page-by-page thumbnails as a navigation tool (what does, aside from Word or Pages, these days?) it just about throws the kitchen sink at the problem of how to structure a long compound document, with corkboard, outliner, and multi-select scrolling subdocument views of a project (in the current version: the next release is considerably more powerful).
