The awful scroll hijacking implementation on this page really distracts from the content.
- BinaryIdiot 9y agoYeah I tried scrolling down to see if it had any information regarding how or when this update would be released to their own phones and the scroll was just all over the place. I really wish everyone would stop hijacking scrolling.
- keepkalm 9y agoI guess it is pretty common for sites with parallax. It's pretty damn annoying.
- zamalek 9y agoEnroll in the beta to get the release version (on Pixel).
- BinaryIdiot 9y agoThanks; it took way too long to figure out this was the path (maybe the release version is rolling out soon? I see zero indication anywhere).
- pwg 9y agoBrowsing with NoScript in default deny JS mode, I just had to turn of style sheets to be able to read the whole article, unimpeded by any scroll hijacking.
- tombrossman 9y agoNoScript definitely improves most sites, but scroll can be hijacked with CSS alone: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/scroll-behavior https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/scroll-beha... Firefox users can set "layout.css.scroll-behavior.enabled = false" in about:config and never have to worry about this nonsense again.
- Zarel 9y agoDid you read the article you link to? It says that it only applies to CSSOM (JavaScript) and navigation (presumably clicking links). Not scrolling by the user.
- tombrossman 9y agoWhoops, sorry I guess my understanding of the setting was incorrect. I remember troubleshooting this a while back and I thought this is what resolved the issue I was having.
- machbio 9y agoJust want to hear your opinion.. What exactly is the problem with the Scroll Hijacking - is it not a way for a Vertical Slideshow ?
- Sylos 9y agoThis ranks highly on the worst webpages that I've ever been to. Shows off nicely that it takes a lot of effort not just to make good webpages, but also to make the truly atrocious ones.
- jm_l 9y agoI'd just like to point out that this isn't really "scroll hijacking." You have full control over scrolling on this web page. Rather this is uses what we call a parallax layout (https://envato.com/blog/parallax-scrolling-in-web-design/ https://envato.com/blog/parallax-scrolling-in-web-design/), which can also be annoying, but is actually not the same as scroll hijacking. (Compare this to the Mac Pro landing page which actually hijacks scrolling https://www.apple.com/mac-pro/ https://www.apple.com/mac-pro/)
- chrismorgan 9y agoIt’s uses scroll-linked effects that are every bit as bad as scrolljacking.
