Why is Atom slow despite having the team who themselves built Electron?

You can see the performance test here: https://blog.xinhong.me/post/sublime-text-vs-vscode-vs-atom-performance-dec-2016/ I understand that Electron apps are inherently slow but, At least, Atom should have been faster than VS Code?
