I think that the author proposed a reasonable solution to preserving civil war history monuments: build a monument to someone that was wronged by the Confederates right next to the monuments explaining the historical significance of the monument. It could be a statue to the unnamed slave, or we could memorialize everyone from then on: the voters rights representatives, the artistic revolution of the 20s, the WW2 units, desegregation, the Civil rights protests, and our first African American president. This country truly has come a long way, and we shouldn't hide and tear down parts of history. If anything, we should memorialize more of it.
